Andrew has been playing the violin
for more years than he cares to admit. At the age
of 7 he had lessons with his father and later went
on to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London
and then to the Conservatory of St. Cecelia in Rome.
He is a long standing member of the Philharmonia
Orchestra. As well as taking part in concerts and
recordings in London and the UK he has travelled
to all parts of the world with the orchestra.
- Some of the greatest classical composers
used folk themes in their compositions, and I'm
interested in exploring this merger of classical
with folk music. |

Sylvia has trained with choral works; relaxed with
folk songs; and played the flute with wind bands,
classically and at folk clubs.
She has played whistles, recorders and flutes since
she was a small child, and has always found it easy
to remember tunes and words.
- I focus on good tunes; they're what make beautiful
music exciting and entertaining. |

Peter learnt the piano from the age of 4, but rebelled
at 7 after one competition too many. As a teenager
he found his understanding of musical theory useful
when he started to write music for others, and to
play the guitar. He sings acapella with Resolution
and the Full
Shanty, and accompanies Sylvia
on guitar.
- to have this opportunity to play beautiful
classical music in an interpretive way is fascinating
and challenging. The
above was re-written by Sylvia in January 2011 to
replace:
Peter plays the guitar. He has dragged himself out
of his long and raucous past of skiffle, rock and
roll and shanty bands (Full
Shanty), through writing for and singing with
Resolution
- an acapella band - to approach a level of refinement
(just) acceptable by Classical Folk. |
